Yesterday Was Ocrevus Day!

Updated: Nov 21

Yesterday was one of those mornings that I can’t wait for. A comfortable chair, snacks, and a good book to read. While the treatment has gotten shorter over the years, down to about 2 and a half hours now, it’s still a great time to sit back, relax, and enjoy a good story.

Book Reading Challenge Update

I haven’t don’t one of these in a while-months actually, and I’m sorry for that. I know some people liked it.

Yesterday I began my journey back into the life of Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast with Crooked River. I’m only about 100 or so pages in but I am reminded every time I read one of these stories just how great they are. The premise of this one is that a young joy stumbles across a shoe in the ocean… with a foot still in it. After an exhausting search law enforcement find a total of 99 feet. All wearing the same shoe. What does this mean? Where did the feet come from? Who could do such a thing? We’ll find out. So far, it’s a fantastic story. As always.

I’ve reached and surpassed my goal of 25 books in 2024. Crooked River is number 28.

Here the all are in order of when it was read:

  1. A Little Hatred - Joe Abercrombie

  2. The Trouble With Peace - Joe Abercrombie

  3. The Wisdom of Crowds - Joe Abercrombie

  4. Casino Royale - Ian Fleming

  5. Bookshops & Bonedust - Travis Baldree

  6. The Secret History - Donna Tartt

  7. The Eyes of the Dragon - Stephen King

  8. The Gunslinger (Dark Tower #1) - Stephen King

  9. A Frost Of Death And Deceit - A.P. Beswick

  10. Never Die - Rob J. Hayes

  11. Zoe Is Too Drunk for This Dystopia - Jason Pargin

  12. Fairy Tale - Stephen King

  13. Still Life with Crows - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

  14. The Three Body Problem - Liu Cixin

  15. Godkiller - Hannah Kaner

  16. Live and Let Die - Ian Fleming

  17. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption - Stephen King

  18. Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk

  19. Reflection - Elizabeth Lim

  20. Siddhartha - Hermann Hesse

  21. The Cabinet of Curiosities - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

  22. Brimstone - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

  23. The Sword of Kaigen - M.L. Wang

  24. Wrath of the Triple Goddess - Rick Riordan

  25. Legends & Lattes - Travis Baldree

  26. Sunbringer - Hannah Kaner

  27. The Long Walk - Stephen King (Richard Bachman)

  28. Crooked River - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

I don’t think I can narrow down my top book of the year (so far) but I can do a top 5 that I would recommend (in no particular order):

  1. Bookshops & Bonedust

  2. Godkiller

  3. The Three Body Problem

  4. Sunbringer

  5. The Sword of Kaigen

This was harder than I thought it'd be. I read a lot of great books this year.

I think I’m going to try to get to 30 for the year. There’s over a month left, I think I can do it.

Anyway, on to the good stuff…

Ocrevus Treatment Number 12

Every time I complete a treatment they get easier and easier. I’m so used to pokes from a needle that I hardly even feel the IV going in now.

What once was an all day venture—about 8 hours—is now a short 2.5 hours from start to finish.

Weirdly, something that many people find uncomfortable I find relaxing. Something I look forward to every six months.

What Does the Future of My Ocrevus Treatment Look Like?

There has been a new version of Ocrevus, Ocrevus Zunovo, that is now FDA cleared for use. For me, I'll stick with the original. This new version appears to be the exact same just with a different delivery method that is faster, down to as littler as 55 minutes.

The new drug, or I should old drug, new administration, works the same as the current version. Still twice a year and still administered at a hospital. I don't see any reason to change.

As with all things in this MS journey, if my Neurologists says I should switch, then I will think about it more seriously.

Ocrevus is Still My MS DMT of Choice

Quite simply, it works. I get time to myself to read or nap and afterwards I feel great and have no side effects. I've looked at other options, including oral meds, and I just don't want to add more potential side effects just for the sake of switching.

Why change when things are going fine now.

Unrelated… We Went On A Disney Cruise

Spoiler alert: it was amazing.

We’ve been on a lot—9 for me, 11 for her—and there is no stopping. They are and always will be a magical trip.

This was our 16th wedding anniversary trip, and wow was it great. We lucked out on our stateroom. We selected it because it looked bigger and had a porthole but we weren't expecting it to be this big, or to have such a great view.

There was so much room to relax and spread out, I'd happily stay in this room again. For those of you that are curious, this was stateroom 8006 on the Disney Fantasy.

As always, the food was amazing, the entertainment was amazing, and the service was amazing. Was it a little more expensive than say a Carnival cruise? Yes. But there's a reason for that. The Disney difference is real and if you take one cruise on Disney, you'll understand.
