Treatment Day

Updated: Jun 7

Yesterday was treatment day. When I first started taking Ocrevus for my MS, treatment day was a full day. The actual infusion process was about 6 hours. Now, thankfully the infusion is only 2 hours with maybe 1 more for the setup and administration of the rest of the "stuff". I'm only there at the infusion center for about 3 hours now. It's really nice.

I don't like being "that guy" who is taking pictures in an area where people want there privacy so that's the best you get.

Treatment now after my 11th one doesn't affect me like it used to. I still get a wicked headache after a bit and I'm pretty wiped out for the rest of the day. But, after almost 5 years of doing this, it seems to be working. My Multiple Sclerosis seems to be staying pretty stable. No new lesions, so keep truckin'.

What Do I Do to Pass the Time During Treatment?

In the beginning, I would bring a backpack full of stuff, Nintendo Switch, laptop, books, you name it. I was there for so long. Now I only bring a book and my laptop.

Still Life with Crows Book Cover

Most of my time is spent reading. Yesterday I was able to crank through close to half of Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.

The surprising thing about this one is that I've never read it. I've read most of their books in the Agent Pendergast saga but somehow this very early entry slipped by.

So far it's a little slow but intriguing. They have a way with detailing horrific crime scenes and there is always, at least in these earlier books, some supernatural mystery surrounding the mystery.

All of their books are great, this one is a little slow but still a good story. I'll keep you posted.

Other than that, I worked on my book a little. And by a little, I mean for like 10 minutes. I wasn't feeling it. Did I tell y'all I'm writing a novel? I might not have. It's slow going and I'll share more when I get further long. It's not quite ready to share yet.

A Quick May Reading Update

I've gotten through 2 books so far in May, Zoey Is Too Drunk for This Dystopia and Fairy Tale.

Zoey is too drunk for this dystopia book cover

The Zoey Ashe series is great. It's weird, action-packed and a lot of fun.

This book though wasn't the best entry in the series. It followed Zoey and her team as they try to have an impact on the upcoming mayoral election in Tabula Ra$a (Yes, that is actually the name of the city. I told you it was weird). There were good parts throughout but between the three Zoe books, I think this one is my least favorite.

All three of the books are worth reading though if you are a fan of just straight-up weird stories with augmented humans and insane futuristic technology.

Fairy Tale book cover

Fairy Tale was good, but not great. In true Stephen King fashion, there is so much detail in many parts of the book that this 600+ page story could have been easily trimmed down to 450-500. He is a fantastic writer, there is no doubt about that but sometimes I feel that you are presented with so much detail that your imagination is hindered a bit.

The story follows young Charlie Reade while he cares for an elderly, crotchety neighbor, Howard. I won't bore you with the detail but the first half of the book is just about these two. It's slow.

The story picks up after Howard dies and Charlie learns of a portal to another world in Howard's shed. Down a dark twisty staircase in the shed leads to a world of magic. The second half of the book is much better and focuses on Charlies attempts to use some of that magic to save his dog's life and his eventual capture by evil forces and his eventual escape, leading to an uprising and eventual takeover from the evil forces ruling. I still enjoyed it but I don't think it's Stephen Kings best work.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I've got 2 books going right now, Still Life (which we already talked about) and I just started The Sword of Kaigen: A Theonite War Story. I just started that last night so I don't have much to talk about but even in the short 20 or 30 pages that I read I can tell I'm going to like it.

So yeah, that's all for now. Sorry it took a minute to get another post out there.

Here's a fun fact of the day, or scary, however you want to look at it: Oklahoma has had 75 tornadoes so far in 2024 as of My 16th. That's fun.
