This last weekend we flew down to Disney World for the Springtime Surprise Race Weekend. My wife and her family were running in the 10-mile race on Sunday with me cheering them from the sideline (although I didn't actually see any of them except for my wife)
But before that, we had to fly down. Luckily the flight gave me time to read. Shorter flight called for a shorter story so A Frost of Death and Deceit was the winner. This is the second book of a dark reimagining of the story of Santa Clause. They are both full of demons, action and adventure and I HIGHLY recommend it.
The first book is A Frost Of Fear And Fortitude if you're interested. They are short reads, only taking a couple hours but they are so worth it.
A P Beswick has an entire series of dark retellings of fairy tales and other popular stories. It's worth checking them out. I promise you'll be hooked.
I'm not affiliated with him or his books, I'm just a fan.
Now, onto the trip. Disney World is never a bad time. It is our happy place after all. In 3.5 days we were able to accomplish everything that we wanted to do at all four parks and some shopping at Disney Springs.
Apart from the early, EARLY morning trip to EPCOT to watch the family run, it was a nice, relaxing trip with good times, good food and lots of fun.
The race started at 5:30AM, the fam had to be there by 3ish and I got there shortly before 5 to find a spot to sit and watch. The energy at these events is simply breathtaking. Old, young, big, small, handicapped, it doesn't matter. The cheers were loud for everyone from the first person to cross the finish line to the last.
The race was Sunday and we got there Friday. So before everyone wore themselves out running 10 miles at the butt-crack of dawn on Sunday we spent time at EPCOT and Magic Kingdom. Then Animal Kingdom on Monday before we had to leave. Although... Now that I'm writing this I realize that I took a grand total of 2 pictures. The one above, and one on a lion on a rock... Whoops.
EPCOT is always good, it's my favorite park. I could spend all day, everyday there and never get bored. Food, drinks, rides, education, what more could you ask for? Their new fireworks show is, I think, one of the best they've done in a while. The International Flower and Garden festival was going on while we were there with topiaries, food and beverage booths, and music but we didn't really spend much time there for that.
Magic Kingdom is the classic Disney experience, it always gives you the feels when you walk down Main Street and see Cinderella's Castle towering over everything with it's majestic beauty. There is just something about Magic Kingdom that makes you a kid again. Don't believe me? Go there and find out.
Oh, and that lion I mentioned, here you go. It's apparently one of the only things I thought to capture, so enjoy. In my defense, it's usually hiding so it was cool.
Ok, so apparently that's all I've got for you from this trip. I promise to take more pictures next time (in 6 months). Big fail on my part.
I'm proud of the fam for completing their run, I'll cheer them on every time.
Till next time,
Joe
